The Foundation is an independent Foundation and a member of the Association of Charitable Foundations (ACF). Established in 2002, the Foundation's main aim has always been to invest in local communities through research, training and grants.
To date the Foundation has allocated around £5 million in grant funding.
The Foundation is currently seeking to dissolve. Some of our services will be continued through a new heritage organisation. South West Community Matters.
Over the last ten years the Foundation has undertaken research for a number of agencies including housing associations, Creating Excellence,Help the Aged/Age Uk and Capacity Builders. We have also undertaken our own research in support of the sector such as "Crisis and Contradiction" which looks at the financial challenges facing the sector and Funders Footprints which examines the sectors' experiences of funders and their processes.these reports are availabe on our RESEARCH page.
The Foundation has also been involved in areas such as Torbay and North Somerset in working with communties, enabling them undertake their own research. The Foundation specialised in Community Based Participatory Research.
Over the years we delivered a wide range of community development training with our partners the Federation for Community Development Learning.
Our main training programme was our Community Researcher Programme which trained community members and housing association residents to undertaken their own research into community needs. There are more details on this at www.communityresearchers.org.uk
